Position: Pathology Assistant - Certified | American Society for Clinical Pathology
Schedule: Day shift, Monday to Friday, with a start time of 8:30 or 9:00 am (rotating weekly)
Job Description:
Maintain impeccable accuracy in patient identification for all specimens processed for microscopic examination.
Perform surgical specimen dissections ranging from simple to complex, ensuring the provision of quality material for routine histology studies and specialized tests.
Obtain pathologist input for precise gross specimen analysis when necessary.
Conduct frozen sections and upkeep of cryostats.
Dictate thorough and accurate gross descriptions.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills, facilitating timely result reporting by interacting with pathologists and providers in a professional manner.
Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, adequate supply provision, and cleanliness of the surgical pathology gross cutting area and morgue.
Conduct, interpret, and report tests within validated parameters, with a keen understanding of disease presentations and technical testing elements.
Recognize reasons for discrepant test results and take corrective action to maintain quality.
Perform quality control processes and routine preventive maintenance, keeping gross bench procedure manuals up to date in compliance with CAP standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned to meet departmental and organizational needs.

As a Pathology Assistant (PA), you'll work under the direct or indirect supervision of a Pathologist, assisting in surgical specimen and frozen section dissections while providing accurate gross description dictation. Your role will involve active participation in problem-solving, quality assurance, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure the delivery of high-quality results.
