NC3-Weekend positions have different leave provisions located in sections 3.04, 4.03, and 5.02 in of the Compensation Plan.
Part-time employees will receive some of the benefits listed above on a prorated basis. Candidates hired into positions that are less than 60% of a full-time position may not be eligible for all benefits.
Position Summary
The Nurse Clinician 3 (NC3) is responsible for providing advanced skilled nursing care to incarcerated adults in the state correctional facilities. This position provides independent management of direct care to incarcerated adult patients residing on this unit who have unique complex health conditions which are acute, long-term and/or terminal which prevent them from residing in the General Population.
The incumbent will provide direct and on-going care, and advanced assessments, to these patients and will provide extensive and complex cares related to activities of daily living (ADL), emotional/psychological support, wound care and other medical treatments, and medication management. Advanced job responsibilities include: patient assessment and treatment, assisting the physician in providing medical services, developing, monitoring, and coordination of treatment plans with the treatment team, management of medications, provision of emergency care, interdisciplinary plan of care development, discharge planning and documentation in the electronic medical record.
Additionally, this position will assist with staff assignment scheduling and appropriate delegation to nursing staff to meet the needs of the assigned patients or patient population. The incumbent is expected to develop and/or participate in educational programs for staff and patients about safe completion of ADL’s, chronic disease management, treatment plans, nursing and medical diagnoses, along with evaluating quality assurance of standards of care on the unit. The incumbent will serve as a consultant to uniformed and non-uniformed staff and will follow the nursing process and utilize the Correctional Nursing Standards in their practice.
Salary Information
Nurse Clinician 3 is in pay schedule and range 11-01 with base pay starting from $45.72 to $53.39/hour .
Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire.
Candidates with no prior permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin in the past 5 years may be eligible to accept a sign-on bonus of $2,000. The sign-on bonus will be paid in two installments: $1000 on the first paycheck and $1000 with the paycheck for the pay period in which the employee attains permanent status (usually 1 year). (UW System employment isn’t disqualifying.)
To receive the bonus, a candidate must sign an agreement indicating they will remain in that position for a year. If the candidate leaves their position prior to completing the one year, they may be required to reimburse the initial payment.
This position is FLSA Exempt. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Remote work options not available for these positions.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens.
