Job Description and Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades, the Carpenter III, leads a crew of Carpenters and inmates in the erection, maintenance, and repairs of buildings and structures including Class A construction, residential housing, concrete form construction, cabinet making, floor laying, roofing, repair of existing structures and provides assistance in special projects. The Carpenter III maintains order and supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Department of Corrections; prevents escapes and injury by these persons to themselves or others or to property; maintains security of working areas and work materials; inspects premises and searches inmates for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs. As a Carpenter III, you are expected to satisfy your duties, which include reporting to work on your scheduled workdays on a continuous basis.
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
