Duties
An appointment as an AUSA with the . Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia offers unique and challenging experiences for highly motivated attorneys, including an opportunity to work on their own caseload as a representative of the United States. The Office is hiring for one part-time (approximately 26 hours per week) AUSA in the Newport News Division. The AUSA will handle prosecution of misdemeanor offenses occurring at the Colonial National Historic Park, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Eastern Shore, Chincoteague and Back Bay National Wildlife Refuges, federal agency offices within the purview of the General Services Administration (Social Security offices, . Post Offices, federal courthouses) and offenses occurring at Camp Peary. The AUSA will also be responsible for the prosecution of misdemeanor fish and wildlife cases, misdemeanor probation violations, and the Newport News cases appearing on the initial appearances docket in Norfolk each Friday. The position may also entail occasional felony prosecutions related to the theft of government property, felony supervised release violation hearings, and responses to felony post-conviction motions.
This part-time AUSA position will be located in Newport News, Virginia and will require travel to Norfolk, Virginia for court appearances and case assignments. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
