Role

An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).

An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.

Location Profile

Wodonga South Primary School is integrated with Southern Rise Children’s Centre and the site is known as Southern Rise Education Centre. The enrolment for 2022 is currently 508 students. The school has 22 class groupings operating which includes 3 x Foundation classes, 7 x 1/2s,67 x Year 3/4s, and 6 x Year 5/6s. Classroom programs were supported by specialist teachers in the subject areas of Music, Visual Arts, Auslan and Physical Education.

The school has a strong relationship with the Southern Rise Children’s Centre which includes a Maternal and Child Health Program, Long Day Care, Play groups and 3 and 4 year old Preschool Programs. Communication and transition between the Preschool and the school is strong and well supported.

There is a strong focus on inclusion and differentiation for all students and the school has an established School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SW-PBS) program. These focus areas work well together and give strong guidance to the whole school community about expectations and beliefs.

The school utilises a comprehensive computer network linking all teaching areas and the outside world via the internet. Staff and student capabilities have significantly improved in recent years as learning technologies have been increasingly incorporated into classroom programs.
