Job Description:

Thermal engineer responsible for performing steady state and transient heat transfer analysis to predict the range of temperatures experienced throughout the operational lifecycle of launch vehicle components, subsystems, and structures. Guides design of thermal protection solutions through participation in multidisciplinary design teams. This position supports the Major Development market segment focused on the development and upgrade of the legacy launch vehicle.

The primary analysis tool used is Thermal Desktop although occasionally Sinda may be required.

Must have a bachelors in engineering (or closely related field) and a minimum of 5 years experience of launch / space vehicle thermal analysis.

Software proficiency: Thermal Desktop

Occasional overtime will be likely to meet project deadlines

Remote work at least thru the duration of Covid* *

Responsibilities:

  • Performs thermal and/or fluids analysis at both the detailed component level and at the systems level.
  • Thermal analyses are performed to verify designs will operate within prescribed temperature limitations, and to prescribe thermal protection systems when needed.
  • Fluids analyses are performed to define fluid states and conditions during system operations to verify adherence to requirements, and develops and verifies flight software parameters to control vehicle fluid systems.
  • Develops specialized analytical tools as required to perform these functions.
  • Develops procedures and plans for thermodynamic test programs when existing analytical capabilities are insufficient.
  • Resolves issues related to thermodynamics that arise due to operational use in the field.
