Reporting to Sr. Manager Network Engineering, the SD(Software Defined) Network Design Engineer is responsible for the assisting in the design and engineering related to JNJ’s next-generation global network infrastructure. Working closely with network architecture and other peer design engineers, he/she will contribute to the engineering team’s next-generation network design. They will work on SDWAN, cloud enabled technologies, and other next-generation solutions while maintaining and working on the core enterprise network.

The successful candidate will have technical experience working with networking solutions and vendors and can provide analysis of vendor solutions and integrations with third party cloud solutions and providers (e.g. Office365 and Amazon Web Services).

The person will also have intermediate level proficiency and hands on experience with above mentioned technologies in at least two or more areas, including developing cost efficient network designs.

The candidate should also have an interest in emerging technologies like network virtualization, cloud enabled firewall as a service, NGFWs, 4G/LTE/5G Wireless WANs and other leading-edge tech.

The selected candidate is able to transform complex problems and abstract concepts into executable technology solutions, leading, driving and developing network designs that are best suited for Business requirements, along with documenting these designs and ensuring communication and delivery of these services globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage intake process for network design requests and provide point of contact for global projects. Consult with senior staff on requirements and deliverables
  • Establish and maintain regular communications with architecture, deployment and operations teams to answer questions related to network design
  • Working with senior engineers, participate in the development of next-generation network solutions with appropriate documentation, templates, use cases and acceptance testing
  • Consult with senior engineers and management on best practices for network standards. This includes providing supporting documentation and training to the regional support teams
  • Collaborate with the Automation and Tools Engineering team to assist in the development of scripts for automated configuration deployment
  • Executes the release management plan as developed by senior engineers. This includes documentation updates, validation testing, and communicating new versions of code to relevant teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Computer Science Or Software Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience deploying and/or managing a highly available production infrastructure.
  • 2+ years of understanding a large enterprise network
  • 1+ years of demonstrated experience working with WAN/LAN solutions
  • Some experience with scripting in Python, Perl or YAML.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of networking protocols required to establish networking connectivity (ARP, DHCP, DNS, etc.).
  • Current knowledge and intermediate understanding and experience in enterprise infrastructure protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, ECMP, etc.)
  • Understanding of software/cloud applications and migration to public cloud services.
  • Understanding of route optimization, load balancing, IP Address Management, and other network optimization and management techniques and
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience communicating designs to peer engineers.

Preferred

  • CCNA or equivalent certification
  • Cisco Certified DevNet Associate
  • Progress towards CCNP or equivalent certification
  • 1+ years of automation development with scripting experience in Python, Perl or YAML.
