Job Description

 

Sungate Medical Group is a fast paced, high energy office looking to add to our team in the Bluffton, Hilton Head and Lady's Island areas. We have an immediate opening for a full time or part time Ophthalmic Assistant/COA/COT/COMT position. The right team player will have a positive attitude, be self-motivated, organized and be eager to continue their education.

Our office is independently owned and operated, normal business hours are 8-5 with no late nights or weekends!

Primary responsibilities:

Charting patient medical history

Performing preliminary exam of patient with standard tests and measurements prior to patients being seen by doctor

Charting with an EHR

Set up and assist with in-office minor surgical procedures

Field patient questions and educate them about their condition and treatments

Cosmetic, dry eye and surgery counseling

Dry eye treatments

Scribing

Peer training

Triage

Inventory maintenance

Help maintain, clean and stock exam areas and equipment after each patient

Help open and close exam rooms and testing areas

You must be willing and able to assist in other tasks as needed by office

Skills – you should be proficient in:

Charting patient medical history in an EHR setting

Visual acuity testing

Pupillary assessment

Visual field testing – confrontation and automated

Ocular motility evaluation

OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography)

Topogrophy

Pachemytry

Fundus Photography

VEP/ERG, IOL Master, Cassini a plus

lensometry – manual and automated

keratometry – manual and automated

Refractions on a phoropter

Qualifications and experience:

You should have previous experience in an ophthalmology medical office and ideally have completed a program in ophthalmic medical assisting. Certification by JCAHPO (COA, COT, COMT) preferred. MIPS and extensive dry eye knowledge is a plus. Knowledge of anatomy is a plus.
