You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN) in the Information Management/Information Technology Department (N6) of NAVOBSERV.
You will support USNO?s scientific computing and administrative systems, and provide guidance to the end-users of these systems.
You will continually analyze the status of utilized IT platforms and make recommendations on best computing practices.
You will test and recommend hardware/software replacements or upgrades to meet current and future requirements.
You will install servers and workstation operating systems and ensure completion of applicable updates.
You will attend meetings of the IT platform user groups to ensure best computing practices are shared across department lines.
Conditions of Employment
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. IT-related experience must demonstrate each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail – Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. In addition the the above competencies, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Administering IT platforms, such as MAC Operating System, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Virtual Hosting Environments and VMWare, and ensuring uniformity of systems and applications within the organization; Managing configuration and applying security controls to assigned IT systems; Installing and replacing IT hardware and software; Preparing and presenting authoritative reports. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Accepted degrees: degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
