Grain Marketing & Origination Specialist Position Summary The Grain Marketing and Origination Specialist is responsible for buying grain in and around their designated trade area, developing long-term business relationships with identified customers, identifying and contacting prospective customers, working face-to-face with grain producers on the farm, helping to facilitate marketing plans with producers, providing a clear and consistent message to clients, aiding in grain flow planning at the location level and assisting each location meet profitability goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Effectively and efficiently procuring grain from area producers, focusing on both volume and gross margin objectives. Developing long-term business relationships with targeted customers by customizing programs and tools to the individual customers’ needs, along with identifying and promoting value. Understanding and following grain contracting procedures as well as NGFA Trade and Arbitration Rules in daily grain contract activity. Communicating effectively with customers, via direct and electronic means, and with others in the Grain Department to: originate grain, introduce risk programs and management tools, assist producers in developing/monitoring marketing plans, define customers needs, etc. Tracking and communicating producer trends, marketing plans, crop conditions, wants/needs/concerns to internal teams. Utilizing and maintaining detailed records on the targeted customers to enhance the understanding of customers needs and the unique characteristics of their operations. Participating and assisting in the planning and execution of the grain origination team strategy, business plans, and marketing efforts. Working closely with agronomists and sales managers to make joint farm calls to effectively initiate/maintain customer relationships. Education and Experience Required Bachelors degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Agriculture/rural background with knowledge of production agriculture; Strong customer focus; Strong communication and listening skills. Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
