Job SummaryWork directly as a business partner with commercial team colleagues of life science business to provide legal support for high volume of complex commercial contracts.MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work directly as a business partner with commercial team colleagues to provide legal support for high volume of complex commercial contractsProvide advice and assistance regarding legal interpretations and analysis of the legal and regulatory risk of contractsCollaborate with global colleagues on corporate policies, training and other initiativesAssist in developing creative solutions for commercial issues and disputesEnsure compliance with internal policiesWork closely with the company’s contract administration team throughout the contracting processAssist in the development of contract templates, policies, procedures and other documentsAssist with special projects and perform other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)JD from an accredited law school, with strong academic credentialsCurrent bar admission required (Pennsylvania preferred)Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience at a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination of both, with at least five (5) years of in-house experience preferredMinimum of five (5) years of experience in the chemical and/or life sciences industries negotiating, reviewing, revising and drafting complex contracts, including customer, supplier, service, consignment, toll manufacturing and joint development agreements, in an in-house setting, preferably with a large, global, publicly traded life sciences or chemical companyUndergraduate or graduate degree in biochemistry or chemical engineering preferredFlexibility to adapt to new Company priorities, processes, initiatives and risk tolerance, and the ability to offer practical, compliance-oriented solutionsUS citizenship or possession of a valid green card (for compliance with federal regulatory requirements applicable to our business)KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to impact and influence at all levels of an organizationExceptional drafting, negotiation, legal research, analytic, writing, communication and organizational skills, plus focused attention to detailStrong and effective judgment, and ability to present ideas logicallyClient-focused and confident, with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to interact with senior business leaders as well as vendors, customers and other third partiesAbility to resolve conflict, overcome resistance and facilitate consensusCollaborative approach necessary for working in a matrix organizationFlexible and willing to learn new areas of business and the lawAbility to work independently and handle complex and sophisticated legal matters with minimal supervisionAbility to handle multiple priorities within tight deadlines and prioritize workload in a manner that best serves the needs of the businessHigh integrity, with a commitment to upholding Avantor’s values of innovation, customer centricity, accountability, respect and excellenceENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)Remote work positionPossible return to office environment; office environment has adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range oftemperature and noise levelMinimal physical effort is required.
