Corporate Accounting Analyst 2 - Financial Planning & Analysis


* Position is open to Sioux Falls, SD and Des Moines, IA.*What you can expect as a Corporate Accounting Analyst 2 - Financial Planning & AnalysisResponsible for the planning, analysis, preparation and reconciliation activities for Home Office Expenses, Fixed Assets, Prepaid Assets and Home Office Expense and Tax, License and Fee Accruals. Responsible for Plan and Actual analysis and documentation. Work with employees at all levels across the organization in a positive, professional and collaborative fashion that aligns with the Sammons Financial Group (SFG) Companies' culture and values.* Apply knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles to the preparation and analysis of the statutory-based quarterly/annual financial statements and filings.* Apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with an emphasis on insurance-based concepts to preparation and analysis of the quarterly/annual GAAP financial statements.* Apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with an emphasis on Fixed Asset and Accrual concepts to research and resolve various complex accounting and reporting issues.* Prepare journal entries to support the financial reporting functions and reconcile account balances to supporting documentation.* Produce various analytical reports, research items or trends that are unusual and communicate insights to leadership* Coordinate with and support external auditors in areas of responsibility applicable to the external audits.* Utilize familiarity with the SFG entities, business units, chart of accounts, profit centers, hierarchies, processes and controls in order to assist the Financial Planning and Analysis team to meet the department's goals.* Utilize familiarity with Prophix, SAP general ledger system and related SAP applications, journal entry interface systems and other applicable technology used by the Financial Planning & Analysis team.* Participate in the preparation of Statutory and GAAP financial plans in the areas of Income Statement consolidation, Home Office Expenses, strategic plan documents and presentations, and required submissions to parent company.* Support the Financial Planning & Analysis as well as other Corporate Accounting teams with special assignments and projects as deemed necessary to meet departmental goals.* Participate in the preparation and submittal of quarterly and annual Rating Agency deliverables including but not limited to surveys and presentations.* Maintain procedural documentation for all assigned tasks and adhere to processes and procedures in support of the required internal controls.* Develop and maintain effective, professional and positive, working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization including several geographic locations.* The workload may occasionally demand additional work outside of the company's standard 40-hour work week.* Commitment to embrace Sammons Financial Group Companies shared values (Accountability, Connection, Openness, Respect and Integrity).* As stated within the Company Attendance and Punctuality policy, regular attendance is required and expected in order to meet the business service levels and workflow demands.What we are looking for:* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required* 2-4 years' accounting or public accounting experience required* Insurance experience preferred* Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with individuals outside of Corporate Accounting* Effective analytical and critical thinking skills and a professional judgement disposition* Collaborative team skills within and outside of Corporate Accounting and the ability to work in a positive fashion toward common organization goals* High degree of analytical and critical thinking skills and a professional judgement disposition* Ability to work independently to identify and resolve complex issues with limited guidance* Ability to prioritize multiple projects and allocate time as needed* High degree of professionalism, motivation and intellectual curiosity* Ability to adapt to change and learn quickly* Ability to identify and apply appropriate software to efficiently achieve objectives* Desire to attain or further insurance-industry specific accounting and finance skills* Strong Microsoft Office skills; working knowledge of company-specific software applications* Basic knowledge of insurance industry-specific GAAP and statutory accounting concepts* Working knowledge of insurance products* Due to the financial nature and level of accountability of this position, a credit and criminal background check is required - The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires Sammons Financial Group Companies to notify you that, as a routine part of processing this application for employment, Sammons Financial Group may request a consumer report on you to verify all information contained in this application.
