About the role

A clearance diver is an exciting career path for men and women of the New Zealand Defence Force. A Navy diver is trained in mine clearance and underwater explosives using the latest diving equipment. They also search for missing persons and conduct underwater engineering on ships and structures.

Requirements (Basics)

  • Must be 18 years old by the time you graduate from the recruit course.
  • 3 years secondary school education.
  • Physical fitness, stamina, ability to work under pressure, strong team orientation.
  • Medical and physically fit for military duties worldwide.
  • Return of service period may apply for this trade.
